Serving Clients Across Bay County and the Great Lakes Bay Region
Matthew Hewitt brings over two decades of legal experience, strategic insight, and community dedication to his role as Senior Managing Partner at Garske Hewitt. Born and raised in Essexville, Matt is proud to serve the Great Lakes Bay Region, where clients know him as a steady, down-to-earth presence in even the most complex legal matters.
After graduating from Garber High School, Matt earned his B.A. in Business
Administration and Finance from Saginaw Valley State University, and went on to graduate cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law in 1999. He returned to Bay County immediately after law school and has built a practice that reflects both legal sophistication and genuine personal connection.
Matt focuses on estate planning, elder law, business and commercial transactions, and real estate law. Whether helping families prepare for the future, guiding small business owners through high-stakes decisions, or navigating complex property matters, Matt’s goal is simple: to make clients feel supported, protected, and informed. He represents individuals, entrepreneurs, and developers with the same care and commitment — often turning first-time clients into long-time advisors and friends.
As a licensed attorney in both Michigan and Florida, Matt also serves the needs of snowbirds and seasonal residents who split time between states. His clients value his careful attention to detail, warm demeanor, and the sense of calm and control he brings when legal issues feel overwhelming.
Matt leads by example at Garske Hewitt, mentoring younger attorneys in the nuances of business and real estate law. Outside the firm, he is actively involved in the Bay City Morning Rotary, the Lions Club, SBYC, and the Knights of Columbus. He was one of the founding minds behind the firm’s deep commitment to community service and client- centered innovation.
Away from the office, Matt enjoys traveling, flying (he’s a licensed pilot), and relaxing at home in Essexville with his wife, Amy, and their Facebook-famous cats, Kenny and Clarky — who have developed their own local following. If you don’t see him in the office, he’s probably exploring a new destination or mentoring the next generation of legal professionals.
